At the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, more than 20,000 works — around 1,000 of which are currently on display — tell the story of more than two centuries of art history. Today, digitisation is opening up new perspectives: ultra-high-definition images and 3D scans make it possible to observe details invisible to the naked eye, such as Fontana’s cuts or Burri’s textured surfaces, to study the materials of the artworks and to monitor their conservation over time.

Preserving the past means making the future possible. Memory does not stand still: it is transformed into a shared heritage.

The “3D and High Quality” project is one of the digitisation initiatives promoted by the Directorate-General for Digitalisation and Communication, through the Ministry of Culture’s Digital Library, as part of the PNRR Culture Programme (Sub-investment M1C3 1.1.5 – Digitalisation).
