Gibellina, Capital of Contemporary Art 2026
Gibellina will be the Italian Capital of Contemporary Art for the year 2026.
The ceremony, held in the Ministry's Sala Spadolini, featured the participation of the Director General for Contemporary Creativity, Angelo Piero Cappello, and the Jury President, Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo.
Gibellina, rebuilt after the 1968 earthquake through the efforts of then-mayor Ludovico Corrao, is now an open-air museum, hosting works by internationally renowned artists such as Alberto Burri, Pietro Consagra, and Mimmo Paladino.
The title of Italian Capital of Contemporary Art aims to promote and enhance contemporary art in Italian cities, supporting innovative cultural projects and the revitalization of spaces dedicated to creativity.
Gibellina will receive funding of one million euros to implement the activities outlined in its dossier, including exhibitions, festivals, and initiatives designed to strengthen its role as a cultural hub in the national and international art scene.
